Public sector websites

A public website has to work for everyone, including residents with impaired sight, motor skills or reading ability. The Danish web accessibility act (webtilgængelighedsloven) requires WCAG 2.1 AA and a published accessibility statement, and the Agency for Digital Government monitors compliance. Building it right costs far less than fixing it after an audit.

PDF files are often the biggest accessibility problem, not the website itself. Minutes, agendas and guides are uploaded as scanned or untagged PDFs that a screen reader cannot read. Editors need a fixed routine for documents, or the site will fail the next assessment.
